March is Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month and a time to honor the accomplishments and contributions of the many women who have left their mark in American history. This month is especially notable as the nation pays tribute to them and the important role they have played in our country’s past, present and future. As part of celebrating Women’s History Month, we will feature various leaders and pioneers that have helped shape our country.

The first in the series of remarkable women leaders is one of the most honored women in American history: Clarissa “Clara” Harlowe Barton. Clara began teaching school at a time when most teachers were men. She was among the first women to be employed by the federal government.
