Cal OES Law Enforcement Branch: Answering the Call Since 1960

Whether it’s a major wildfire or a search and rescue mission, the Cal OES Law Enforcement Branch is there. Providing valuable services to California’s law enforcement agencies is the call the Cal OES Law Branch has answered for 57 years.

During emergencies, Cal OES Law Branch plays a critical role coordinating mutual aid resources local jurisdictions need to help them respond to an emergency. This coordination of law enforcement officers from jurisdictions all around the state is through the Law Enforcement Mutual Aid (LEMA) system.

Most recently, the Cal OES Law Enforcement Branch has been involved in major events like the Erskine Fire in Kern County, Oroville Dam Emergency in Butte County, Super Bowl 50, numerous Search and Rescue missions including the rescue of missing hiker Cody Michael, Butte Fire in Calaveras County, Boles Fire in the … continue reading »

Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Answers Call to Support Community Protection at Butte Fire

SACRAMENTO, CA – Law enforcement mutual aid is rapidly growing as the Butte Fire continues to burn in Calaveras and Amador Counties.  At this time there are more than 100 officers and deputies from 23 agencies assigned to the fire to aid in evacuations, potential search and rescues operations, and property protection.

“We’re grateful to all law enforcement agencies around the state that have sent officers at the request of OES to aid in community protection,” Cal OES Director Mark Ghilarducci said today. “This fire covers a vast, rural area and we need these additional officers to assist the local jurisdictions in the growing and complex disaster.”

The fire has burned more than 64,700 acres, is 10% contained and threatening more than 6,150 residences. More than 3300 emergency response personnel are currently working this incident.
