The Cal OES Debris Removal Operation Center (DROC) Provides Tentative Start Dates, Schedule for Debris Removal

Cal OES and CalRecycle, in coordination with local partners, will now provide tentative start dates and a tentative schedule as part of the State’s Consolidated Debris Removal Program.

The DROC Survivor Support Unit (SSU) is now able to provide a tentative timeframe, starting within a projected month for debris removal on individual properties, to survivors participating in the State program. This information is available to individual property owners upon request or by contacting the DROC, it will not be posted publicly.

Physical onsite debris removal can typically take 1-5 days, depending on lot size, complexity, and access issues, among other factors. Once qualified ash and debris has been removed, properties will be certified as clean upon completion of the following steps:

  • Verification of uncontaminated soil via testing of post-removal samples
  • Installation of erosion control measures
  • Final Sign-off (FSO) and walkthrough
  • Return of parcel to Butte County
  • Final notification of clean property from Butte County

Following debris removal on a parcel, and barring any delays, the length of time for a typical property to be certified clean is approximately 4-6 weeks. This timeframe is subject to operational scheduling, environmental law compliance, permitting and access, County processing, and, very importantly, includes the possible need for “re-scraping” if the initial test reveals that the soil is contaminated.

The timeframe is subject to change and will vary depending on the property and factors mentioned above, and does not include hazardous tree removal that was identified after the initial site inspection.

Survivors may contact the DROC with any questions or for additional information. A DROC representative may be reached at the below address or telephone number.
