“Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.”

We’ve all heard various extolment of volunteerism. In fact, we’ve heard it so often that it could be on the verge of becoming vapid for many. However, there’s a reason it’s touted as wonderful: volunteers make great things possible. And for Cal OES volunteers can mean the difference between success and failure, comfort and pain, happiness and heartbreak. One small example of their importance is our annual California Day of Preparedness event. Cal OES uses this event to raise awareness of just how important it is for people to have an emergency plan, for them and their families, should a major disaster strike. It’s hazard mitigation at its core and fun all around. But we couldn’t pull it off without the help of our two to three dozen volunteers. We give our sincere thanks to each and every one of them, and offer an event T-shirt as a small token of our gratitude. In the video below we see just how these shirts come to life.
