Worlds Apart, California and Chile Share Disasters and Experience

California and Chile’s partnership continues to grow stronger following a recent visit to the Golden State by officials from the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security of Chile (ONEMI). With shared geography, natural disaster risks and a desire to learn from each other, California and Chile have partnered to share best practices, expertise, training, and information exchange designed to strengthen emergency management systems.

Mundos Aparte, California y Chile Comparten Desastres y Experiencia

La colaboración entre California y de Chile sigue creciendo más fuerte después de una visita reciente a California por oficiales de la Oficina Nacional de Emergencia del Ministerio del Interior y Seguridad Pública de Chile (ONEMI). Con geografía y riesgos de desastres similares y el deseo de aprender unos de otros, California y Chile se han asociado para compartir mejores prácticas, entrenamiento, e intercambio de información para fortalecer los sistemas del manejo de emergencias.

Monica Vargas

Monica is a Public Information Officer for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). She has been involved in the Aliso Canyon Gas Leak, Valley Fire, Butte Fire, historic drought, Oroville Dam Emergency Spillway Incident and 2017 winter storms. She previously served Cal OES as an analyst in international affairs, technology operations and executive staff support.
