Major Incident at Local Facility
A significant incident occurred at a facility in Garden Grove when a large tank released toxic chemicals into the atmosphere. The event unfolded Thursday afternoon at the GKN Aerospace site on Western Avenue, sparking immediate concern among local residents and authorities.
Emergency Response and Public Safety Measures
Aerial footage showcased the alarming scene as the tank discharged hazardous material, identified as methyl methacrylate (MMA), known for its use in producing acrylic plastics. In response, the Orange County Fire Authority initiated evacuation protocols, clearing buildings located from Western to Beach Boulevard and extending to Garden Grove Boulevard and Orangewood Avenue.
While the cause of the spill remains uncertain, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Authorities established a reunification center at Rancho Alamitos High School on Dale Street to assist evacuated individuals. Fortunately, evacuation orders were lifted as the situation stabilized, allowing residents to return to their homes.
