Quick Action by Firefighters Saves Historic Venue
On Tuesday evening, an alarming fire flared up in the attic of the renowned Magic Castle, a beloved venue in Hollywood. Firefighters arrived promptly to manage the situation, which required the evacuation of guests and staff enjoying the magical atmosphere.
As dusk approached around 5:30 p.m., smoke was observed leaking from the iconic structure located on Franklin Avenue, igniting a swift response from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Reports indicate that the fire broke out in an area under repair on the roof.
“The incident occurred in the attic space on the third floor,” shared LAFD Battalion Chief Ken Cook. “Fortunately, all guests were evacuated safely, and more than 30 individuals were on-site at the time.” In a commendable effort, a total of 68 firefighters battled the flames, successfully extinguishing the fire within 41 minutes.
The Magic Castle: A Legendary Landmark
The Magic Castle, established in 1909, has held a special place in the hearts of many as a members-only clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts since 1963. Following the incident, the owner and magician Randy Pitchford took to social media to express gratitude toward the firefighters while sharing images of the damage caused by the fire. Thankfully, this incident seems less severe compared to a significant attic fire that occurred back in 2011, which resulted in substantial damage.
Although the cause of the latest fire is still under investigation, the spirit of the Magic Castle will undoubtedly endure as the damage appears to be relatively minor, ensuring that the magic can return swiftly for its patrons.
