IKEA Expands Presence in Southern California

Introduction of a New Store in Culver City

In an exciting announcement, IKEA has confirmed the opening of a new store in Culver City, California, slated for 2026. This location will represent IKEA’s first “city-center” format in Los Angeles, designed to provide an inviting urban shopping experience closer to residents.

Details of the New Location

The upcoming Culver City store will cover approximately 38,050 square feet. It will feature a central planning area where customers can receive assistance in designing spaces such as kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Though smaller than the traditional IKEA warehouses, it will house around 3,000 items available for immediate purchase, including a variety of home accessories and approximately 600 smaller furniture items.

Additionally, fans of the IKEA Cafe will find their favorite menu items, including the renowned Swedish meatballs, plant balls, cinnamon buns, and veggie dogs, available at this location.

Current Performance and Future Plans

This announcement coincides with IKEA’s release of its 2025 Annual Summary, which indicates a notable resilience in the company despite challenging external factors such as inflation and fluctuating consumer confidence. IKEA U.S. reported total sales of $5.3 billion for the fiscal year 2025, with e-commerce contributing $1.9 billion to this figure. Furthermore, membership in the IKEA Family Rewards program grew by 17%, reaching a total of 25 million members.

While an exact opening date for the Culver City location has yet to be disclosed, IKEA’s Interim CEO, Rob Olson, expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Looking ahead to FY26, we will build on this momentum, focusing on continued investment in the U.S. to make IKEA more affordable, accessible, and sustainable.” This expansion will mark the 11th IKEA store in California and the 10th within Southern California, joining established locations in Burbank, Carson, Costa Mesa, and Covina. Nationally, IKEA is also planning to open new stores in markets such as Huntsville, AL; University Park and Rockwall, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Chantilly/Dulles, VA; and Houston–Webster, TX.
