Burglary Strikes Twice in Rapid Succession
A recent spate of burglaries has hit a local hardware store just days before Father’s Day, leaving both the employees and the community shocked. South Bay Hardware in Redondo Beach experienced two break-ins within a mere 48 hours, leading to significant loss of merchandise.
Surveillance footage captured the thieves in action as they forced their way into the store on both occasions. The first incident occurred overnight on a Friday, when the burglars, clad in hoodies and masks, quickly ransacked the store, taking off with boxes of power tools and batteries in less than ten minutes.
Following this initial break-in, store manager Daniel expressed his heartbreak over the incidents. “It tears me apart. I just feel heartbroken,” he shared, highlighting the emotional toll such crimes have on small businesses.
Thieves Strike Again
Despite taking swift action to restock their shelves and enhance security after the first burglary, Daniel’s team was met with another blow the very next morning. This time, the thieves were even quicker, making off with items that were part of the store’s Father’s Day sale.
While security footage showed police responding to the scene, the criminals escaped with valuable goods and cash from the register, amounting to approximately $40,000 in losses. Daniel noted that these thefts would undoubtedly impact the store’s budget and hiring plans for the foreseeable future.
In light of these repeated offenses, he plans to implement additional security measures, as he strongly believes that the two break-ins are connected, and suspects that the stolen items will likely be resold on the black market. This marks the fourth time in five years that South Bay Hardware has been targeted, prompting police to launch an investigation into the incidents.
