Pasadena Fire Captain Charged with Decades-Long Child Sexual Abuse

Overview of Charges

Christopher James Ramstead, a 47-year-old captain in the Pasadena Fire Department, is facing nine counts related to sexual abuse of minors. According to prosecutors, his alleged actions spanned over two decades, involving at least three victims. If found guilty, Ramstead could face a lengthy prison sentence ranging from 135 years to life.

Details of the Allegations

Authorities report that the abusive incidents took place between March 2003 and July 2025, primarily during times when Ramstead was off duty from his responsibilities. He has entered a plea of not guilty and is currently being detained without bail.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney has urged any additional victims or anyone possessing relevant information regarding the case to reach out to the Juvenile Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Ramstead, who joined the Pasadena Fire Department in 2005 and reached the rank of captain in 2016, is presently placed on administrative leave as investigations proceed. The city has emphasized that the alleged misconduct occurred while he was not on duty.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman has expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “These allegations describe years of sexual abuse of children by someone who was repeatedly placed in positions of trust. The harm alleged here is profound, and no title, badge, or uniform places anyone above the law.” He encouraged any further victims to come forward, assuring them of a robust pursuit of justice and support for survivors.

Ramstead is scheduled to appear in court again for a bail review hearing soon.
