Gusty Winds Hit Southern California

This weekend, Southern California is set to experience the notorious Santa Ana winds, which will start blowing in on Saturday and continue through Sunday. Residents should brace themselves for a blustery mix as temperatures climb across the region.

Weather Warnings and Forecast

A high wind warning will be in effect until 3 p.m. Saturday for the Santa Susana and San Gabriel Mountains, as well as the 14 Freeway corridor. Winds are expected to range between 25 to 40 mph, with fierce gusts possibly reaching up to 70 mph.

Following this period, from 3 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday, a wind advisory will replace the warning, allowing gusts of up to 55 mph in the area. In addition, much of Los Angeles County will remain under a wind advisory from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and similar advisories will affect large portions of the Inland Empire and Orange County until late Sunday afternoon.

The wind conditions are expected to subside later Sunday and into Monday, giving way to warmer weather. As the winds cease, temperatures will start climbing, peaking on Sunday with many areas in Los Angeles County reaching the 80s.

Looking at Saturday’s forecast, residents of Los Angeles and Orange counties can look forward to sunshine alongside those gusty winds, with highs hitting 80 degrees and lows dropping to 51. By Sunday, temperatures could soar into the upper 80s.

For the valleys and Inland Empire, Saturday will bring similar conditions, with winds potentially hitting 35 mph, highs of 81 degrees, and lows of 48. On Sunday, these areas could experience a high around 89 degrees.

Beachgoers in Southern California can expect a pleasant day with highs around 77 degrees and lows near 53. Mountain regions will see sunshine but should prepare for winds reaching 45 mph in mountain passes, with a cooler high of only 46 degrees and an overnight low of 22 degrees.

Lastly, the desert regions are set to endure a windy Saturday as well, with expected highs around 66 degrees and lows dropping to 32. This diverse weather pattern showcases the unique climate of Southern California, where residents often experience a mix of conditions.
