A Special Appearance at the Super Bowl
Villa’s Tacos, a beloved establishment in Los Angeles, recently made its debut during the Super Bowl halftime show, but not in the conventional manner, serving food to fans. Instead, it was featured in a cameo by popular artist Bad Bunny, who performed during the event.
During his dynamic performance at Super Bowl LX, Bad Bunny was seen interacting with a series of small businesses. In a memorable moment, he picked up a traditional Puerto Rican dessert, piragua, from a vendor and handed it over to Victor Villa, the owner of Villa’s Tacos. This moment of recognition showcased both the restaurant and its owner prominently on a grand stage.
From Humble Beginnings to Mainstream Recognition
Victor Villa founded the taqueria as a pop-up in Highland Park back in 2018. He expressed his profound gratitude for the opportunity to appear on such a significant platform through an Instagram post, reflecting on his family’s immigrant journey and the struggles that shaped their path. He recalled, “We sold our first taco in the front yard of my grandma’s house in Highland Park more than 8 years ago, and I feel that every taco along the way brought me here, today. For this moment!”
Villa’s Tacos is renowned for its freshly pressed blue corn tortillas, char-grilled meats, and cheese-encrusted tacos. The restaurant has earned spots on the prestigious L.A. Times 101 Best Restaurants list multiple times and was even included in the Michelin guide. Bill Addison, the L.A. Times restaurant critic, has described the restaurant’s offerings as a “deftly engineered chaos, epitomizing the L.A. dream and the entrepreneurial spirit.”
Additionally, Villa’s Tacos gained further exposure by appearing in Season 3 of the Netflix series “Taco Chronicles,” and it operates two locations in Highland Park and one at Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles. Victor Villa again took to Instagram to thank Bad Bunny for the exposure, stating, “It’s crazy where a taco can take you.”
