A San Bernardino County sheriff’s detective was critically injured during a dramatic gunfight in Little Rock this Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the suspect’s death, according to local authorities.
During a press briefing, L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna described the unfortunate encounter, revealing that the detectives were investigating a case when they unexpectedly faced off against an armed suspect who demonstrated a dangerous willingness to engage. “This was a very dangerous individual, in my opinion,” Luna remarked, praising the detective as a hero.
The Incident Details
The exchange of gunfire erupted around 3:10 p.m. in a remote part of Antelope Valley, specifically in the 13000 block of East Avenue R2 at 130 Street. Sheriff Luna confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, emphasizing that details are still being pieced together. Initial reports suggested that detectives were serving a search warrant when the violence erupted, but definitive information was not confirmed during the news conference.
The injured detective was swiftly airlifted to the Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster via the department’s Air Rescue 5 helicopter. He suffered wounds just below the rib cage. Sheriff Luna stated that the quick airlift was crucial for the detective’s survival and that he was receiving excellent medical care for his internal injuries.

Though the suspect was declared dead at the scene, law enforcement believes no further suspects are at large and confirmed that several individuals are in custody. The chaotic scene featured two bullet-riddled SUVs and a deputy’s ballistic vest abandoned in the area, showcasing the intensity of the confrontation.
As the scene unfolded amidst a desert backdrop, a sizable presence of L.A. County sheriff’s deputies worked to secure the area. The Homicide Bureau from the Los Angeles County sheriff’s office has launched an investigation into the shooting, while the medical examiner’s office and representatives from the district attorney’s office were also called to the scene.
