Escalating Tensions in Woodland Hills
A tense situation unfolded in Woodland Hills as a standoff involving a barricaded suspect took a dangerous turn on Sunday night. The incident began in the 5000 block of Owensmouth Avenue, where local police responded to a report of domestic violence.
Since 3:15 p.m., the suspect had been holed up inside the home, prompting a heavy police presence at the scene. In an effort to resolve the situation, officers deployed tear gas, but the standoff only escalated further.
Fire Breaks Out
As the night progressed, aerial footage from AIR7 captured a dramatic scene with the house completely engulfed in flames just after 11 p.m. The suspect’s residence was part of a three-unit townhouse complex, and fire crews reported that the flames had begun to spread to adjoining homes. Authorities ordered evacuations for nearby residents as a precaution.
Amid the chaos, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) confirmed that while they were battling the blaze, gunfire was being reported from inside the house. It remains unclear if the suspect was responsible for starting the fire.
Firefighters focused on ensuring that anyone inside the home was safely evacuated while working to extinguish the growing flames. Initial reports indicate that a woman, believed to be the suspect’s wife, suffered injuries during the ordeal; however, further information about her condition was not immediately available.
Authorities noted that the barricaded man possesses a registered gun, and there are concerns about additional firearms being present in the residence, increasing the urgency of the situation.
