Long Lines for a Unique Timepiece
A crowd of enthusiasts eagerly gathered outside Topanga Westfield mall as the evening wore on, all hoping to snag one of the exclusive Royal Pop pocket watches created through a collaboration between Swatch and the high-end watchmaker, Audemars Piguet.
As the hours passed, the line grew, with many dedicated fans settling in for an overnight campout that wound around the sprawling parking lot. The official launch of these unique timepieces was set for Saturday, and anticipation buzzed in the air.
What to Expect from the Royal Pop Collection
The Royal Pop collection includes eight vibrant styles, each priced between $400 and $420. With colorful designs aimed at appealing to collectors and watch aficionados alike, these pocket watches are sure to be a conversation starter.
As excitement built, many people initially expected to walk away with wristwatches instead of pocket models. “I was taken aback. Disappointed for sure, but it’s definitely distinctive in its own right,” commented Woodland Hills local William Enenstein, who was among the hopefuls waiting in line. “Who else is launching a pocket watch that attracts over 500 people? It’s pretty unique.”
Initially, more than 300 eager customers formed the line, but due to a limited supply, authorities had to cap it at 200. Unfortunately for some, like Enenstein, who waited for four hours, they were unable to purchase one before being turned away.
Not everyone had flipper intentions—Northridge resident Aidan Chin expressed his desire to wear the watch personally. “I’m probably the only one here who plans to use it, while others are looking to resell for $1,200,” he shared, highlighting the contrast in motivations among the crowd.
