Multiple Injuries Reported in Fire Truck Collision
An accident involving a ladder truck from the Los Angeles Fire Department and three other vehicles left seven individuals injured in South Los Angeles. The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, took place at the busy intersection of South Figueroa Street and 120th Street, not far from the 110 and 105 freeways.
Footage shared on social media depicted the fire truck embedded against the front of a sports bar, with three damaged sedans nearby. Among the injured was a firefighter, and emergency responders had to work to extricate one person from their vehicle. All seven injured individuals were swiftly transported to local hospitals, though their conditions remain unclear.
Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
The intersection was temporarily closed for several hours following the crash as recovery teams managed the scene, including the removal of the fire truck from the building. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances behind the collision.
This incident marks the second time within four days that a city fire vehicle has been involved in a traffic accident. Captain Anthony Tubbs from LAFD noted that the truck was responding to an emergency when the crash occurred. “There’s pretty significant damage to our apparatus, as well as a couple civilian vehicles, enough to result in seven individuals who needed to be transported,” Tubbs explained.
The shocking scene left local residents taken aback. One neighbor, Cashimier Amanda, remarked, “It’s pretty bad. It’s like it tried to swerve out of the way.” Another neighbor, Maria Ortega, recalled the terrifying moment, “We all ran out, just hoping that it didn’t hit any of our cars parked outside on the street. It was a really loud noise that we’ve never heard before.”
Captain Tubbs also took the opportunity to remind the community of the importance of yielding to emergency vehicles as they respond to incidents. “When you do have a fire apparatus responding with lights and sirens, it’s crucial to be mindful and aware,” he stated. Residents echoed this sentiment, urging drivers to stop racing through intersections when they see flashing lights and hear sirens.
