A Fresh Start at Hollywood Burbank Airport
Excitement is in the air as Hollywood Burbank Airport gears up for the grand unveiling of its newly renovated terminal. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning 355,000 square feet and featuring 14 gates, recently opened its doors for a test run, providing a unique mock flight experience for local volunteers.
On this special day, approximately 1,500 eager participants had the chance to simulate the entire airport experience—from check-in and TSA security checks to boarding their flight and retrieving their luggage. This practice run is a crucial step in ensuring a smooth operation when the terminal officially opens next month.
Elevating the Airport Experience
After 96 years of service, the terminal has undergone significant upgrades designed to enhance passenger safety and comfort. Mike Christensen, the communications manager for the airport, explained that the previous terminal didn’t meet current FAA safety standards. With the new design, the airport’s runway is organized to create a safer environment for all aircraft operations, which typically include 133,000 to 155,000 annual takeoffs and landings.
With modern restaurants and retail options, soaring ceilings, and amenities like wireless charging stations at each gate, the revamped terminal is set to elevate the travel experience for over 6 million passengers annually.
The feedback gathered during the mock flight will play a vital role in refining processes ahead of the official opening on October 13. In a bid to foster community connection, the airport will invite local residents for a special preview on October 8.
Burbank resident Gina Crawford expressed her enthusiasm about the new terminal, highlighting its convenience for those living in the San Fernando Valley. “This is a much more convenient airport for anybody who lives in this area,” she said, looking forward to potentially new destinations and options as the airport takes this big leap forward.
