Assault on a Correctional Officer
An unsettling incident unfolded at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility earlier this month when a prison guard was hospitalized following an alleged attack by an inmate. On September 9th, just before 10 a.m., staff members witnessed Jorge Villa, an inmate at the facility, reportedly assaulting the officer on the yard.
Quick-thinking staff intervened promptly, employing chemical agents and physical force to put a stop to the assault. An improvised weapon, found at the scene, was recovered by the authorities. Subsequently, the injured guard was transported to an external medical facility for treatment while Villa was placed in restricted housing as the investigation progressed.

Jorge Villa, 30 years old, entered the California state prison system from Los Angeles County on December 10, 2024. He is currently serving a nine-year sentence due to various charges, including the discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, first-degree burglary, and causing corporal injury to specific individuals resulting in a traumatic condition.
