McDonald’s McRib Lawsuit Continues as Judge Denies Dismissal

McDonald's McRib Lawsuit Continues as Judge Denies Dismissal

A federal judge in Illinois has made a significant ruling allowing a class action lawsuit against McDonald’s to proceed. The lawsuit, initially filed in December 2025, accuses the fast food giant of misleading customers regarding the contents of its beloved McRib sandwiches.

The Allegations Against McDonald’s

The litigation claims that McDonald’s has engaged in “false representations, omissions and concealments” by promoting its McRib sandwiches, which are said to be “deliberately crafted to resemble a rack of pork ribs.” The plaintiffs argue that these sandwiches do not actually contain any pork rib meat, but rather consist of lower-quality pork products.

On the official McDonald’s website, the McRib is described solely as a “McRib Pork Patty” without providing clarity on whether it includes actual pork ribs. The lawsuit highlights that many consumers have been significantly misled, resulting in purchases they might not have made, or that they would have made at a reduced price had they known the true nature of the product.

McDonald’s Response

In response to the lawsuit, McDonald’s has firmly denied the allegations, labeling the claims as “meritless” and stating that the lawsuit misrepresents the facts. The company insists that they have always been transparent about their ingredients, allowing customers to make informed choices about their meals.

The fast food leader is required to submit a formal response to the complaint by November 20, and the outcome of this case could have significant implications for how food products are marketed in the future.
