A mechanical failure on a Metrolink train created quite a disruption for travelers Saturday afternoon, as hundreds of passengers found themselves stranded in Anaheim Hills for nearly two hours.
Details of the Incident
The train, which was on its route from Oceanside to San Bernardino, experienced issues around 4:30 PM. According to Metrolink spokeswoman Sabrina Davis, the train came to a halt between the Anaheim Canyon and Corona stations, an area deemed unsafe for passengers to exit.
Weekends typically see a surge in ridership, particularly for those traveling to and from the beach. Around 500 passengers were on board at the time of the breakdown, highlighting the scale of the inconvenience.
Response and Aftermath
After approximately two hours, a relief train arrived to assist the stranded passengers. However, some individuals had reportedly opted to leave the train on their own prior to the arrival of help.
Emergency responders reported that several passengers needed treatment for heat exhaustion and difficulty breathing, underscoring the challenges faced during the prolonged wait.
Following the incident, the train that rescued stranded passengers brought them to downtown Riverside. Metrolink also arranged for additional transportation via bus and Uber to ensure that everyone reached their final destinations safely.
