Captured on Saturday afternoon near Cypress Street, the grainy video shows individuals disembarking from the boat one by one, quickly vanishing from sight. The abandoned vessel, which was left unattended, reportedly caused minor damage to a nearby yacht, adding to the concerns expressed by local residents.
Amidst the chaos, Newport Beach City Council member Erik Weigand voiced his unease, stating, “It’s an unsafe thing, right? A bunch of guys coming off a boat, they’re slamming into the neighborhood here and trying to get away as fast as possible.” This sentiment was echoed by various locals, who were taken aback by the sight of the boat’s arrival.
Mixed Reactions from the Community
Reactions within the community were varied. While some expressed alarm, others showed sympathy toward the migrants. Local fisherman Abram Reyes shared his perspective, noting, “I have family that are immigrants as well.
