Officers from the Downey Police Department responded to reports of gunfire just before 8 a.m. at a six-plex located on Downey Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male and female, both victims of gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported hearing a woman screaming in distress after the gunfire erupted.
In dramatic footage from the scene, first responders were seen evacuating the injured individuals on stretchers. With an armed suspect still potentially in the vicinity, the police secured the area and attempted to communicate with anyone inside the building.
Throughout the standoff, officers called out to the suspect by name, urging him to surrender peacefully. However, the situation took a critical turn when the suspect reportedly approached the police. Tragically, this prompted officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in the man’s death.
