Tragic Bus Crash Claims Lives and Injures Many on Long Island Expressway

A tragic accident occurred late Monday night on the Long Island Expressway, resulting in two fatalities and numerous injuries. A chartered bus, transporting the crew of Royal Jordanian Flight 8261 from Amman, Jordan, to their hotel, overturned and collided with oncoming traffic, leading to a chaotic scene.

The Incident Details

The crash unfolded around 11:45 p.m. as the bus was traveling westbound on the expressway. Initially, it struck two vehicles before crashing into the center barrier, ultimately flipping into the eastbound lanes. The impact was severe, involving two additional vehicles in the opposite lane.

Sadly, both the bus driver and a passenger lost their lives in the accident. Emergency responders rushed the driver of one eastbound vehicle to the hospital in critical condition, while three others involved reported stable injuries. Approximately twenty passengers aboard the bus were also taken to nearby hospitals to assess their injuries.

Investigation and Responses

The tragedy created significant traffic disruptions as emergency crews worked diligently to manage the scene. Authorities have stated that the investigation into the crash’s cause is ongoing.

Details have emerged regarding the deceased driver, who reportedly had a criminal history including seven prior arrests for various offenses. While he held a valid driver’s license, it was noted that he had accumulated multiple moving violations over the years, none during his time as a professional driver.

Royal Jordanian Airlines has acknowledged the situation and is currently coordinating with local authorities to gather more information. Following the incident, all lanes on the Long Island Expressway were eventually reopened after extensive cleanup efforts were completed.
