Devastating Early Morning Blaze
A tragic fire erupted in a two-story home early Sunday morning, resulting in the loss of an elderly couple’s lives. The Santa Monica Fire Department is currently investigating the incident, which took place in the 500 block of Lincoln Boulevard.
Life Cut Short
The identities of the victims, both in their 90s, have not yet been made public as their relatives are still being notified. Firefighters arrived shortly before 3 a.m. and were met with a scene of devastation as flames engulfed the residence. Unfortunately, they discovered two bodies in a bedroom on the first floor, and both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Typically, the couple had a caretaker present, but no one was available during this tragic event, according to Battalion Chief James Altman. As of now, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
This incident marks a somber moment for Santa Monica, being the second fatal residential fire in recent months, following another incident in June where an elderly man lost his life in a fire at an apartment on 5th Street.
