The Vandenberg Space Force Base community is in mourning following the unfortunate passing of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, who was just 23 years old. He tragically lost his life in a heavy equipment accident on base.
The Incident
On July 16, Airman Eneluna was killed in an accident involving heavy machinery while on the job at Vandenberg Space Force Base. Reports indicate that the vehicle he was operating rolled down an embankment. Thankfully, no other personnel were injured during this tragic event.
Eneluna, who joined the military on March 5, 2024, had recently begun his first duty assignment at Vandenberg on August 2, 2024. Originally from the Philippines, he had grown up considering St. Louis, Missouri, as his homeland.
Serving within the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight—often referred to as the “Dirt Boyz”—he played a crucial role in maintaining the infrastructure necessary for the base’s national security launch and range operations.
Community Response
While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Santa Barbara Coroner’s office, base officials have expressed heartfelt condolences to Eneluna’s loved ones. Specifics regarding the circumstances leading to the vehicle’s accident are still being withheld as inquiries into the event continue.
Leadership at Vandenberg has emphasized the deep impact Eneluna had on his peers. Colonel James T. Horne III, the commander of Space Launch Delta 30, shared, “Our Vandenberg family is grieving alongside Cedric’s loved ones and his teammates. He made a lasting impression through his character, dedication, and care for others. My deepest condolences go to Cedric’s family and friends during this profoundly difficult time.”
Teammates remember Eneluna as a shining example of positivity, always willing to lend a hand and uplift those around him. Lieutenant Colonel Seth Poulsen, commander of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron, remarked, “He brought out the best in everyone, and he truly embodied what it means to be an Airman.”
