A woman from Wildomar had a disturbing experience at a Riverside County Starbucks when her usual coffee run took a terrible turn. Leota Walker claims that as she was receiving her drink through the drive-thru, the lid unexpectedly came off, resulting in hot coffee spilling onto her stomach and inner thighs, leading to severe second-degree burns. This unfortunate event occurred last month and has dramatically impacted her life.
Legal Actions and Implications
Following the incident, Walker has spent several weeks in the hospital and has undergone surgery to address her injuries. In response to her painful ordeal, she and her legal team have filed a lawsuit against Starbucks, alleging negligence on the company’s part. The suit highlights a pattern of similar complaints from other customers who have expressed concerns regarding the safety of Starbucks’ coffee lids.
Walker’s attorney, Daniel DeSantis, stated, “Starbucks has known for many, many years that they serve their beverages way too hot. Incidents like these continue to happen over and over again, and Starbucks refuses to change its safety policies and procedures.” The lawsuit seeks compensation for Walker’s lost wages as well as the physical and emotional suffering she has endured.
Starbucks has chosen not to comment on the lawsuit. This isn’t the first time the company has faced legal challenges over similar issues; a jury in Los Angeles County awarded a man $50 million last year for a comparable case against the coffee giant.
