A Bear’s Wild Weekend Adventure at Hansen Dam

A Bear’s Wild Weekend Adventure at Hansen Dam

A large bear made quite the impression at Hansen Dam Recreation Area over the weekend, capturing the attention and concern of local residents. The furry visitor stirred up excitement and prompted a swift response from law enforcement and wildlife officials.

Bear Breaks Into the Spotlight

On Sunday, visitors at the park were startled to find the hefty creature roaming dangerously close to where families and friends were enjoying their weekend. The unexpected appearance of the 275-pound bear initially sent people into a frenzy, causing many to capture the moment on video.

Footage showed the bear strolling casually among the bystanders, who were understandably cautious as police and California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers quickly arrived on the scene. The excitement continued into Monday when the bear began to move around the area once again.

A Dramatic Capture

In a scene that resembled a wildlife showdown, park rangers attempted to safely handle the bear. As the bear dashed through the neighborhood, residents watched from a distance while the rangers worked on their capture plan. Eventually, the bear was tranquilized and fell into a peaceful slumber atop a cinder block wall dividing two properties.

According to Steve Gonzalez, a spokesperson for Fish and Wildlife, the bear was checked for health issues, fitted with a collar, and given an ear tag before being released back into the wild, specifically into Angeles National Forest. Gonzalez noted that the bear, which is a robust 45 years old, posed no harm to the public as there were no reports of it being aggressive or damaging property during its urban escapade. “It’s a no harm, no foul bear,” Gonzalez remarked, describing it as a first-time offender enjoying a brief taste of the city life.
