California’s Top BBQ Restaurants According to Yelp

Yelp has unveiled its 2026 rankings, and California shines brightly with 14 eateries on the coveted list of the best barbecue spots in the nation. While traditional American barbecue has its place, the rankings this year highlight a strong presence of high-end interactive Japanese and Korean barbecue experiences.

Leading the way for California is Mazra in San Bruno. This standout establishment claimed third place overall with its vibrant Mediterranean flavors, combining family recipes and expertly wood-fired meats. Diners rave about their rotisserie chicken, hearty wraps, and a selection of fresh seasonal mezzas.

In Southern California, Yakiya in Hacienda Heights took the 11th position, offering guests an immersive chef-curated tasting menu. Their focus on premium Japanese and U.S. beef, including the highly sought-after A5 Kagoshima Wagyu and Snake River Farms American Wagyu, makes it a must-visit for meat aficionados.

Close behind is Mo Ran Gak Restaurant in Garden Grove, which secured the 12th spot. This beloved Orange County gem is celebrated for its generous servings of high-quality Korean BBQ alongside their famous mul naengmyeon—a delightful cold noodle dish rooted in North Korean cuisine.

Yelp’s list reflects a growing appreciation for diverse barbecue styles across California. With the blend of traditional and modern influences, these restaurants highlight the state’s culinary richness and creativity.

Nationwide, the top honor went to Little Miss BBQ-University in Phoenix. While California may have a strong representation, there’s plenty of excitement brewing in our local BBQ scene.

After a brief hiatus from its traditional Top 100 format last year, which ranked cities instead of restaurants, Yelp’s return to recognizing individual BBQ spots demonstrates a renewed focus on regional favorites and hidden gems.
