In a shocking turn of events, two California men found themselves in the spotlight after being charged with conspiracy to commit murder related to a foiled anti-government plan. Bryan Omar Roa and Michael Alan Thomas made their court appearances recently in Riverside, facing serious federal charges.
The Alleged Conspiracy Unfolds
Both men, hailing from Riverside County, were implicated in a disturbing plot aimed at executing a large-scale sniper and drone attack during a high-profile UFC event being held on the White House lawn, dubbed “UFC Freedom 250.” The federal criminal complaint reveals that their actions were brought to the attention of the FBI by a co-conspirator from Ohio, a 19-year-old named Tycen C. Proper.
Investigators learned of the scheme after Proper was interviewed by the FBI in June 2026. Following initial concerns raised by his parents, he identified Roa and Thomas through their social media use, linking them directly to the conspiracy.
Details extracted from Proper’s iPhone highlighted the elaborate planning efforts that involved coordination among a group of around 19 individuals. This correspondence took place using encrypted messaging apps, featuring mixed discussions and planning documents that included maps and aerial views of Washington, D.C., the White House, and potential sniper locations.
Motivation Behind the Attack
The conspiracy was specifically set against the backdrop of an unprecedented mixed martial arts event scheduled for June 14, 2026. This momentous occasion was part of celebrations for America’s 250th birthday and was expected to attract major media attention, with many notable celebrities in attendance, including high-ranking government officials.
A striking element of the investigation was the anti-government sentiment that ran deep within the group, who had formed in early 2026 via a TikTok group named “Vanguard of the Old.” Allegations suggest they harbored ultra-religious views and spoke against perceived government corruption. Proper admitted that the planned attack aimed at igniting a revolution in the United States.
Roa’s social media activity also drew scrutiny when investigators discovered posts showcasing his firearms training, raising further alarms about the potential for violence.
While authorities have arrested individuals tied to this plot across various states including Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska, and West Virginia, questions remain about the specific roles Roa and Thomas were to play during the event in D.C.
Additionally, while it was reported that significant weaponry was surrendered by Proper’s family, including an AR-style rifle and thousands of rounds, information on what might have been confiscated from Roa and Thomas has yet to be disclosed.
As of now, both Roa and Thomas are in custody, with arraignments scheduled for July in connection with these charges. The case is seen as part of a larger domestic terrorism investigation being conducted by the FBI.
