Evacuation orders rang through Chino Hills as a vegetation fire broke out near Grand Avenue Park around 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Within just one hour, the flames had consumed around 30 acres, leading officials to call for immediate evacuations in several local streets, including Mill Stream Drive, Falling Star Lane, Valley View Lane, and Sweet Grass Lane.
To support those displaced, an evacuation center has been established at the Chino Hills Community Center located at 14250 Peyton Drive, where residents can also bring their pets for safety.
Fire Intensifies and Response Efforts
The growing fire raises concerns as it has the potential to expand to 200 acres while advancing northward, threatening nearby structures. By 8 p.m., reports from Chino Valley Fire officials revealed that ground crews and water-dropping helicopters were actively engaged in battling the blaze.
Fortunately, by 9:30 p.m., conditions began to shift positively, as fire officials indicated that the fire’s spread had stabilized at 30 acres, aided by cooler nighttime temperatures and increased humidity.
Safety Measures and Weather Warnings
In response to the fire, several road closures were implemented, particularly at Chino Hills Parkway and Falling Star Lane, as well as at Chino Hills Parkway and Country Walk. The National Weather Service also issued warnings, citing moderate to strong winds combined with low humidity as factors contributing to heightened fire risks across inland areas of L.A. County throughout the week.
This weekend is expected to be particularly perilous, with predictions of wind gusts between 15 to 30 mph, and isolated gusts potentially reaching up to 50 mph.
