Enhanced Security at CityWalk
Recent changes at CityWalk, a hub renowned for its vibrant nightlife and diverse dining options, have introduced a new level of security for visitors. Previously a place with few entry restrictions, CityWalk is now implementing mandatory metal detector screenings and bag checks for everyone entering, aligning with the standards set by Universal Studios Hollywood.
While guests heading directly to the theme park won’t need to undergo another security check, those just looking to enjoy a meal or watch a movie at the IMAX theater must comply with this additional protocol. This has sparked discussions online about the potential inconvenience it may cause to casual visitors.
Visitor Reactions
However, many visitors interviewed expressed satisfaction with the enhanced measures. Ernesto Lopez, who traveled to CityWalk from Stockton, shared his surprise at the new protocols but emphasized that they contributed to a feeling of safety. “I didn’t know we had to put our belongings in the baskets, but it’s actually a good safety measure,” he remarked, appreciating the visible presence of security personnel throughout the area.
The new layout has also transformed access to several previously open areas, which are now fenced off and monitored. Lopez stated, “There’s no danger, there’s no nothing. It’s safer.”
These security enhancements, implemented this month, were not specifically enacted in response to upcoming events like the World Cup or the anticipated Olympics in Los Angeles, according to Universal Studios representatives. Instead, what has been dubbed a “security bubble” had been in development for several months, intending to bring CityWalk in line with Universal Studios locations across the nation.
The approach mirrors protocols at other major attractions, such as Disneyland, where visitors must also pass through security before accessing the parks. Observers noted that the lines for security at CityWalk were moving efficiently on the day The Times visited, with attendees like Jackie Segura praising the quick process. “I have no complaints,” said Segura, a regular at CityWalk.
As patrons blended shopping with leisure activities, outdoor patios at restaurants buzzed with diners. First-time guests, including Ty Birtles, reported that the security measures were user-friendly. While he mentioned needing to remember to leave behind his weed pen for future visits, he found entering the venue to be a smooth experience.
