Voting Made Easy: Early In-Person Voting Kicks Off in LA County

Early Voting Options for Residents

As the November 3 general election approaches, registered voters in Los Angeles County have the opportunity to participate in early in-person voting. This initiative aims to make the voting process more accessible, allowing millions to engage with democracy ahead of Election Day.

Voting Details and Important Dates

Early in-person voting officially started on Saturday with 123 voting centers across the area. These centers will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until November 2. On October 31, the total number of voting centers will expand significantly, with an additional 523 locations opening. This will bring the total to 646 centers, allowing voters to cast their ballots conveniently, irrespective of their residential addresses.

On Election Day, all voting locations will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can also submit their vote-by-mail ballots, which started being mailed to active registered voters on October 1. These ballots can be returned through the mail, delivered to any active vote center, or placed in one of the 429 official drop boxes available until 8 p.m. on November 3. While there is no postage required for mail-in ballots, voters are encouraged to send them at least a week in advance to ensure they arrive on time.

The ballot for November 3 features several key races, including the governor’s race, various statewide offices, congressional seats, and local measures. The administration of the election will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, with the city clerk’s office handling local candidate filings.

Final Preparations for Voters

Key deadlines and events to note include:

  • Oct. 1: Mailing of vote-by-mail ballots begins.
  • Oct. 19: Deadline for regular voter registration; conditional same-day registration available at vote centers.
  • Oct. 24: Early in-person voting starts at 123 centers from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 31: Additional 523 vote centers open, expanding access significantly.
  • Nov. 3: Election Day—646 vote centers open, and all ballots must be submitted by 8 p.m.
  • Nov. 4: Official canvass of ballots begins.
  • Nov. 27: Certification of official election results.

Los Angeles City Clerk Patrice Lattimore urges voters to plan ahead, stating, “Voting early ensures your ballot is cast on Election Day. Whether returning your ballot by mail, drop box, or in person, we encourage all voters to make a plan to vote ahead and participate.”

Those who missed the October 19 registration deadline can still register and vote conditionally at participating vote centers through California’s same-day registration process. Voters can enhance their experience by creating an interactive Poll Pass or checking in quickly at voting sites using codes provided in their mailed sample ballot materials.
