A significant brush fire has erupted in Riverside County, rapidly expanding to over 2,000 acres and leading to evacuation orders being issued. This incident, known as the Shore Fire, was first detected in the afternoon, specifically at 3:23 p.m. local time. The fire ignited in a less populated region located near Lake Shore Drive and San Timoteo Canyon Road, within the Badlands area southwest of Calimesa.
Evacuations and Response Efforts
The Riverside County Fire Department has mobilized extensive resources to combat the blaze. Multiple fire engine crews, along with support from the Hemet Fire Department, Palm Springs Fire Department, and Cal Fire-San Bernardino County, are actively working in the area. Firefighters are battling the flames across the challenging landscape nestled between Interstate 10 to the north and Highway 60 to the south.
In response to the fire’s spread, evacuation orders were put into effect for specific zones, namely RVC-0231-B and RVC-0231-C. Additionally, several evacuation warnings have been released to prepare residents in surrounding areas.
Traffic Disruptions and Assistance Centers
As firefighting efforts continue, motorists are advised that the westbound lanes of Highway 60 at Interstate 10 have been closed to facilitate the response operations. The closure is expected to last for several hours, although eastbound lanes remain open for travel.
As of late evening, the fire’s size was reported at approximately 2,053 acres, with a containment level currently at 20%. To ensure the safety of displaced residents and their pets, an evacuation center has been established at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley, with provisions for large animals available at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus.
