A mountain lion caused quite a stir in Santa Monica when it made an unexpected appearance in a local neighborhood, prompting swift action from law enforcement and wildlife experts. The thrilling encounter unfolded Friday when the large feline was first spotted prowling around 8 a.m., far from its usual mountainous habitat.
The Capture Process
As news of the sighting spread, police took precautionary measures by closing off certain streets and advising residents to stay indoors. The mountain lion was seen later in the day, hiding in the bushes of a home near 14th Street and Montana Avenue and eventually settling down for a nap in a backyard.
Wildlife officials were prepared with tranquilizer guns and strategically positioned themselves to safely apprehend the big cat. After some tense moments, they successfully administered a tranquilizer dart just as the mountain lion ventured into an alley. By 7 p.m., the team was seen carrying the tranquilized animal into the back of a pickup truck, ensuring everyone’s safety.
