Commitment to Safe Elections
As the June 2 primary approaches, residents of Orange County can rest assured that their elections will be conducted with the utmost safety and integrity. The Orange County Registrar of Voters has implemented a variety of measures to ensure a smooth electoral process.
Voter Confidence and Integrity Measures
Inside the Orange County Election Center, officials are busy processing ballots, adhering to an intricate 125-step procedure designed to uphold election integrity. Bob Page, the Registrar of Voters, emphasized, “Fraud is very rare, and it’s stayed rare,” further instilling confidence in the voting process.
District Attorney Todd Spitzer echoed these sentiments, reinforcing that his office collaborates closely with election officials to monitor and address any potential fraud. “I’m fairly confident with a high degree of certainty that we have fraud-free elections here in Orange County,” he stated, noting that his office has only pursued a handful of voter fraud cases over the past eight years.
One notable case involved a woman from Costa Mesa who was charged for the absurdity of registering her dog to vote and casting multiple ballots. After pleading guilty, she is scheduled for sentencing later this fall.
Additionally, the Registrar highlighted the convenience of allowing voters to cast their ballots at any vote center throughout the county. This initiative not only enhances accessibility but also incorporates advanced security measures, such as electronic poll books, which help identify individuals attempting to vote more than once.
For those wishing to report any suspicious activities, the District Attorney’s Office has established an election fraud hotline at 714-721-7578, and can also be reached via email at [email protected].
