A Cherished Figure in Santa Monica’s Community
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a prominent leader known for his dedication to enhancing Santa Monica’s downtown has been found dead alongside his wife in their Venice home. Jeremy Ferguson, the operations director for the nonprofit Downtown Santa Monica Inc., and his wife, Mandy Zelinka, were discovered with fatal injuries following a reported shooting.
Investigations Underway
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of the shooting on Superba Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Law enforcement officials are currently treating the case as a potential murder-suicide, revealing the gravity of the situation.
Debbie Lee, the CEO of Downtown Santa Monica Inc., expressed the organization’s sorrow over the loss. “Jeremy was a beloved member of our team and a true advocate for Downtown Santa Monica. His enthusiasm for enhancing our community and his unwavering commitment to his role made an indelible mark that we will always remember. He will be profoundly missed,” she stated.
The L.A. County medical examiner confirmed that 49-year-old Mandy Zelinka also passed away at their residence on the same day. Downtown Santa Monica Inc., which collaborates with the city to elevate economic growth and host community events, has relied on Ferguson’s rich background, which spanned over 25 years in public service.
During his tenure, Ferguson played a vital role in transforming the city’s annual holiday ice-skating rink and was instrumental in the launch of Santa Monica’s inaugural outdoor seasonal roller-skating rink, leaving a legacy of innovation in the community.
