Tragic Story of a Young Girl's Suffering Unfolds as Her Body is Exhumed

The heart-wrenching case of 7-year-old Jor’Dynn Duncan has taken a solemn turn as investigators have exhumed her body months after her untimely death. Prosecutors allege that Jor’Dynn faced months of systematic abuse and cruelty prior to her passing in late December.

The young girl’s body was retrieved from its resting place in order to seek further evidence regarding the suspected mistreatment she suffered inside a small home on Oak Street in Bayport, New York. Her mother, Portia Duncan, through her legal representative, Heather Palmore, provided permission for this process, underscoring the profound emotional weight this decision carries for her family.

Seeking Truth and Justice

Palmore expressed the complexity of emotions that Duncan is experiencing, describing her as devastated but recognizing the need for this exhumation to uncover the truth regarding her daughter’s tragic fate. “It’s a nightmare for her, her family and those who loved Jor’Dynn,” Palmore commented, highlighting the shared grief surrounding this incident.

Prosecutors have revealed disturbing details surrounding Jor’Dynn’s last months, indicating that she endured extensive abuse, much of which was allegedly documented on a cellphone. They report that the child had suffered around 90 injuries at the time of her death, most of which stemmed from an untreated infection linked to her mistreatment.

In connection with this heartbreaking case, Jor’Dynn’s legal guardian, along with her guardian’s mother and daughter, are facing serious charges. All three have pleaded not guilty, according to court statements. Palmore emphasized that it was evident to any reasonable observer that something was gravely wrong in this situation.

A Call for Accountability

Previously, Jor’Dynn had been removed from her mother’s custody following a failed drug test. In light of this tragedy, attorneys for Portia Duncan are planning to file a lawsuit against multiple entities, including the county and the Bayport-Blue Point School District, contending that they failed in their duty to ensure the child’s safety and well-being.

Palmore articulated the necessity of holding these institutions accountable, stressing that they must do their part in protecting vulnerable children in situations where their parents cannot. As the community grapples with the weight of this case, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has yet to provide comment, while the three charged women await trial.
