Understanding the Norte Fire Incident
The Norte Fire has ignited a troubling situation in Orange County, with a recent lawsuit pointing fingers at San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). The fire, which wreaked havoc in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano, has led to the destruction of multiple homes, prompting a swift evacuation of residents as crews raced to bring the blaze under control.
Details of the Lawsuit
Filed by the law firm Bridgford, Gleason & Artinian, the lawsuit was initiated on behalf of a San Juan Capistrano resident who was forced to evacuate their home. The claim suggests that SDG&E’s operations might be the catalyst for this devastating fire. According to the attorneys, there was a notable power line outage in close proximity to where the fire ignited, raising serious concerns about the utility’s role.
Attorney Michael Artinian sheds light on the timeline leading up to the fire, noting that an outage was reported by SDG&E at 11:31 a.m. on October 16, only two minutes before the fire was reported at 11:33 a.m. Artinian emphasizes the correlation between the power line issue and the fire, stating, “There’s been no explanation other than a possibility that this was caused by SDG&E’s lines,” suggesting a critical need for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In response, SDG&E has stated that the cause of the Norte Fire is still under investigation and they are fully cooperating with the Orange County Fire Authority. They clarified that while an outage occurred on one of their circuits, the exact cause remains unclear and expressed gratitude toward emergency personnel for their efforts in managing the fire’s impact on the community.
As of Monday evening, containment efforts had reached 80%. Many residents in San Juan Capistrano voiced their appreciation for the dedication shown by the firefighters. Nancy Finley, a local resident, could not help but commend these brave individuals, stating, “Heroes, total heroes, they saved this whole area. They really did.”
Fortunately, despite the alarming circumstances and large-scale evacuations, no injuries have been reported as a result of the Norte Fire, allowing residents to begin the recovery process and reflect on the narrow escape they had from a potentially more catastrophic outcome.
