Outrage Over Assault Video at La Mirada Senior Living Facility

Tragic Incident at The Palms La Mirada

A shocking incident has unfolded at The Palms La Mirada Senior Living Facility, where a 39-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 61-year-old resident suffering from Alzheimer’s. Authorities say the crime was captured on surveillance footage, prompting the victim’s family to take action against the facility.

A Daughter’s Heartbreaking Discovery

The disturbing footage revealed a man entering the woman’s bedroom, leading caregivers to rush to her aid. The accused, Jonathan Michael Alvarado, initially met the victim during his time as a volunteer musician at the facility, where he was contracted to entertain the residents.

The crime came to light when the victim’s daughter, Camyl Anderson, who keeps an eye on her mother through installed cameras, received alarming notifications while at work. After reviewing the footage from June of last year, Anderson was horrified to see a man sitting on her mother’s bed.

“Once I was back in my office, I watched the video and saw him tying his shoes and then leaving, with my mother just left there, exposed and vulnerable,” Anderson recounted, shaken by the revelation. She immediately contacted caregivers for help and alerted the police.

Feeling a mix of disbelief and rage, Anderson expressed her emotional turmoil: “I couldn’t believe it, honestly. And then I was angry, and then I just screamed, and then I cried.” This heartbreaking incident has drawn attention to the security measures at the facility.

Dominique Westmoreland, the family’s attorney, voiced concerns about the lack of protective measures in place for residents, stating, “It’s a violation of those who are at most vulnerable in our society, especially knowing that her mother had been diagnosed with dementia.” The Palms La Mirada responded, emphasizing that the safety of their residents is paramount and that they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

Alvarado now faces serious charges, including one felony count of rape and one count of elder abuse. The investigation is active, and authorities urge anyone with information about this case or other potential victims to come forward. Individuals can contact the Special Victims Bureau, specifically Sergeant Joe Ramos at (562) 946-7960, to report any relevant information.
