The search for a father and his 14-year-old daughter has escalated after the grim discovery of a deceased infant in Monterey County. Authorities emphasize that the young girl is a victim in this troubling case.
The Disturbing Discovery
On August 1, authorities found the lifeless body of a newborn, referred to as “Baby Angelita,” on Struve Road in north Monterey County. This tragic event has since prompted an Amber Alert for the teen, who is believed to have given birth to the child on the roadside.
The girl’s father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez, reportedly fled with her in a white Nissan Altima without license plates. They were last seen in the Salinas area on August 4, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Initially, there were claims that the minor was being pursued for murder related to her newborn’s death, but clarity has emerged as the circumstances unfold.
Acknowledging the Victim’s Status
Last week, the district attorney’s office clarified that they had not received any requests for criminal charges against the 14-year-old. They reaffirmed that she is considered a victim of her father’s alleged crimes rather than a perpetrator.
Sergio Galvez Perez faces serious allegations, including incest and child endangerment, indicating a history of abuse. The district attorney expressed concern for the girl’s safety, stating, “No child should ever have to endure such horrific circumstances. Our priority is to ensure that this young girl is safe and has access to the support and services she needs.”
Described as having black hair, brown eyes, and standing at 4 feet 10 inches tall and weighing roughly 100 pounds, the girl’s safety remains a pivotal concern for law enforcement. Investigators are seeking to determine if she is with her father and whether she is safe.
