Boil-Water Advisory Issued in Koreatown Following E. coli Detection

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has issued a boil-water advisory affecting a two-block section of Koreatown after routine tests detected E. coli. This situation arose from a single water quality testing site, and the department confirmed it does not impact the larger water distribution network.

While the specific cause of the E. coli presence remains unclear, officials have stated that it is not connected to a recent warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. Testing has revealed no fire-related contaminants in the water samples, which is reassuring for residents.

Precautionary Measures and Community Support

Out of an abundance of caution, the LADWP has decided to implement this boil-water notice and is conducting further testing and collecting additional samples. The advisory area is defined by South Ardmore Avenue to the west, South Mariposa Avenue to the east, West 5th Street to the north, and West 6th Street to the south.

To assist those affected, LADWP staff were actively distributing bottled water and ice to residents and businesses within the advisory zone. They also went door-to-door to inform the community about the situation and necessary precautions.

Residents in the affected area are advised to boil all tap water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice. The department has not provided an estimate for when the boil-water notice might be lifted but has assured customers they will be informed immediately once it’s safe to discontinue boiling the water.
