A hiker’s morning adventure took a startling turn when he stumbled upon a human skull in San Bernardino County. This shocking discovery occurred around 7:30 a.m. near Twentynine Palms, according to local authorities.
Upon finding the remains, the hiker quickly contacted emergency services. Deputies from the Morongo Basin Station promptly responded to the scene, confirming the discovery and escalating the incident to their homicide detectives for further investigation.
Investigation Underway
A specialized investigation division from the Sheriff’s Department, alongside the coroner’s division and crime scene specialists, conducted a thorough search of the area. The skull, noted to have been exposed for an extended but unspecified duration, was collected as crucial evidence.
Next steps include a forensic examination of the skull, with DNA tests being conducted on samples gathered from the site. According to a spokesperson, if the remains cannot be identified, they will remain in evidence until a missing person’s report is filed. Should the case remain without identification, it will eventually be categorized as cold.
